“The Calling” by Roger Fields — With Comments by George Nielsen
Roger Fields is a Children’s Minister. His ministry organization is Kidz Blitz Inc., and he travels the country, primarily leading Children’s ministry events or festivals, in churches. He has written, and published online, an article titled “The Calling”. An excerpt from Roger Fields’ article is shown below (the italicized printing, with larger font). My comments (mostly not italicized) were added to give greater detail about the point he was making. The web address for reading his full article is shown in the footnote below.
From “The Calling” —
My strength is supernatural. My reward is promised. And my God is real.
In a world of cynicism, I offer hope. We call it The Blessed Hope; it’s based on promises from God Almighty.
In a world of confusion, I offer truth; my Source for truth is the Word of God, the Holy Bible. I am a representative for the person who declared He is the Way, the Truth, and the Life (Jesus Christ).
In a world of immorality, I offer values — Christian values based on the Holy Bible.
In a world of neglect, I offer to listen, paying attention to other’s words and feelings.
In a world of abuse, I offer safety, and the way to recovery from the abuse.
In a world of ridicule, I offer affirmation; affirming people’s worth and value, being a voice for overcoming the ridicule (whatever the basis for it was) and then going forward.
In a world of division, I offer reconciliation — first, with God Almighty, and then I offer a pledge of Unity, being united with like-minded brothers and sisters in the faith, to form what the Scriptures call “One New Man”; qualities we receive by becoming “One New Man” include a sense of peace, true righteousness, and holiness. (see Ephesians 2:15, and 4:24).
In a world of bitterness, I offer forgiveness. A classic hymn lyric says “T’is so Sweet to trust in Jesus.” Forgiveness is available, and the transformation that takes place when you receive it really is so Sweet. There is no need to be bitter, when God Almighty forgives you and gives you a fresh start, on a new path in life, that has eternal rewards.
In a world of sin, I offer salvation. Jesus Christ is the Son of God and the Savior. Jesus asks, and I also ask (as his called representative — “a witness”), that the person in that world of sin would stop the self-willed, sinful life and “Come to Jesus”. Salvation is a gift from God, which is offered freely, if the sinner will agree that they have sinned against God, confess their sins and repent (turn away from those sins, with God’s help), and accept Jesus as their Savior, acknowledging Him as the Lord and King.
In a world of HATE, I offer God’s love. LOVE — the special kind of Love that God has for people — is something that people in the world don’t experience. They may experience some of the common blessing of God’s Providence, that He gives to all people, but they don’t get to feel His Love. But, God’s Love is available. You can enter into the experience of God’s Love, when you Come to Jesus.
The attributes of God also include Hate and Wrath, but God’s primary attribute is Love. If a person wants full disclosure, before they will decide to Come to Jesus, I can teach on what God hates, and examples of His wrath and the punishment of sin. But most people already have a full plate, regarding hate and wrath. What they need to experience is the Love of God.
I refuse to be dismayed, disengaged, disgruntled, discouraged or distracted. All of those things are roadblocks that take me away from my calling. My personal goal is “to fulfill my calling, in this life,” and then to worship and serve Jesus in the life hereafter.

I recommend readers use the link above to read the full article. It will be motivational. It affirms the calling to serve as a Children’s Pastor, and it highly affirms and validates the importance of children.
